In reference to the 24th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting on July 27, 2006, the ultimate resolution was that all country members would closely corperate to build up the sustainable development and stability of an energy system through the provision of various sources of energy such as coal and renewable energy of hydropower, biomass, and bio-fuel; including through the promotion of buying and selling the electricity in the region. In order to actively pursue the above regional policy, Thailand has collaborated with neighboring countries in developing some appropriate locations for power generation and encouraging the international commercialization of electricity among Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, People’s Republic of China, and Kingdom of Cambodia; Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT),
which is a state enterprise, acts as a moderator on this matter. Hence, EGAT had proposed the plan of establishing EGAT International Company Limited to carry out the foreign execution to the consideration of the Ministry of Energy and the Cabinet. It was approved by the Cabinet on October 30, 2007 and registered as a limited company on December 18, 2007.
